Moore discussed what he saw from Michigan’s offensive line in the win.

“I thought the offensive line overall, the consistency that I saw throughout the game was really good,” Moore said. “There’s always the hey, you could have made this block you could have did this, but when you rush for over 200 yards you feel pretty happy about that. I know we had some explosive plays in there, but there were also some four or five yard gains and three yards gains that turn into those big plays, so I think that’s super important.

“I think the progression they’re taking, especially from the bowl game to now having new guys in there, has been really good. Been fun to watch.”

The defense, meanwhile, faced a New Mexico offense that ran a lot of screen passes.

“That’s what you’ve got to do when you’ve got a good D-line and you’ve got a good pass rush,” Moore noted. “They’re going to get the ball out as fast as possible, so I thought our guys did a really good job tackling for the most part. We had a couple missed tackles, but not very much. You see in week one of college football, there’s a lot of missed tackles. We did a study, an average of 15 to 20 people have [missed tackles] during a game, and I thought we limited those on special teams and defense. When you do that, you’re going to play winning football.”

Michigan didn’t have a perfect game, but it was enough to win handily.

“Overall, the one thing we wanted to do, we didn’t want turnovers — we had one on special teams,” the Michigan coach said. “Think he learned from that. He’s a young freshman. He was down about it, still down after the game. At the end of the day, these are kids. These are young men we have to teach these lessons and help them through these lessons. He’s going to learn from it, get better from it.

“We didn’t want to miss a lot of tackles on special teams and defense, and I wanted consistent energy throughout the game, and I felt like there was consistent energy from snap one all the way to the end. It didn’t matter who was in there. Guys played physical; guys played fast. And yeah, there’s things we’ve got to clean up, get better at. We know that.”
