Newsstand: Sherrone Moore reveals coaches he leans on for advice
Michigan Wolverines head football coach Sherrone Moore is currently navigating a difficult first season on the job with the program, sitting at 5-5 in his first campaign. It has not been easy to deal with the drop-off in production on the field, and it has required some mentorship from some of his peers.
“The first one’s been Coach Harbaugh,” Moore revealed during his Monday press conference. “He’s continued to strive to get better. He’s been through good seasons. He’s been through bad seasons. So he’s seen it all. John [Harbaugh], his brother. Talked to him a good bit. Got in touch with Mike Tomlin a little bit. Then Coach [Bob] Stoops is a guy that I’ve been very close with my whole career, obviously played for him. So those are guys that I talk to a lot and continue to talk to and lean on because everybody needs them.”
Moore said that he chats with his former mentor and predecessor at least once a week, even in the middle of a current 7-3 campaign with the Los Angeles Chargers. The Michigan head coaches make it a point to connect regardless of what’s on the schedule.
“Every week. Maybe sometimes twice, three times a week depending on it could be a text message here or there, but we’re at least going to follow up every week,” Moore said. “[The message is] usually the same but just stay the course. You know be true to yourself. Be true to who you are. Don’t change who you are because you know people know that the players will know and know it’s different but make sure you keep pushing everybody in the same direction and that usually works out the back end.”

Michigan quote of the day
Much like our last home game, a much better effort in the second half as we continue to try to find solutions, remedies for the turnovers and whatnot. But overall, I thought we played with good spirit. We got out in transition, we played at a much better pace. We were much crisper in the second half. So, once again, we’re moving incrementally in the right direction.
