The Michigan Wolverines will hold their annual football spring game on April 19, according to a release from the program on Thursday afternoon. Rumors of the date had circulated online after a recruiting graphic made its way to the public, but it is now official.

The game will kick off at noon Eastern on Big Ten Network. According to the graphics that have been shared online, spring practices are expected to start on March 14.

The conclusion to Michigan’s spring practice circuit will be an opportunity for fans to get their first look at the 2025 squad, headlined by a new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in Chip Lindsey and the first look at the revamped room of signal-callers, including No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood and former Fresno State passer Mikey Keene out of the transfer portal.

Some across the sport have have considered not holding a game out of fear of tampering in the NCAA transfer portal, which has another open window from April 16-25. General manager Sean Magee is not among those concerned.

“I’m a great believer in the axium that your culture — in any organization — is your immune system to handle outside threats, adversity, anything else,” Magee said recently on the In The Trenches podcast. “So, of course, that’s always going to be present, but hopefully we can rely and dig deep on what we’re trying to instill and build here, to defend against any of those other notions.

“I think that when programs are worried about that, there are probably other issues … maybe known or unknown to fans and the public in general.”

Michigan is coming off an 8-5 season where it ended the year on a three-game winning streak, two of which came against the national champion Ohio State Buckeyes, their fourth loss in a row to the Wolverines, and Alabama, who started and ended the 2024 calendar year with losses to the Maize and Blue.

“We had a lot of lessons throughout the year, and just learn from them,” head coach Sherrone Moore said after the 19-13 win over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl. “So we learned the things that we needed to learn to ultimately end up on the plus side, and we did that in these last few games, and finishing on a strong note was huge for us. Building great momentum into the offseason. We feel like we’ve got a bright future the way we’re recruiting, the guys we’re bringing in, the guys we’re keeping, to make sure this Michigan is the best version of Michigan it can be. And that’s all we’re worried about.

“When we get to winter workouts, that’s the first cycle we got, we’re gonna attack that as much as we can and get better there, and then we’re gonna go in the spring, go in the summer, and then we’ll go into fall camp and work to what that final piece will look like after fall camp.”

Michigan kicks off the 2025 season on Aug. 30 against New Mexico at the Big House.
