Michigan football (10-0, 7-0 B1G) opened the College Football Playoff rankings reveal a few weeks back as the No. 5 team in the nation before being elevated to 3rd last week. The latest batch of rankings were released on Tuesday night with the Wolverines staying at No. 3.

Georgia leads the way as the No. 1 team in the land, followed by Ohio State at No. 2, U-M at No. 3 and TCU bringing up the rear at No. 4. Tennessee and LSU are next in line at spots 5 and 6, respectively.

The way things are set up now, Michigan and Ohio State are essentially playing a CFP quarterfinal game when the two teams meet on Nov. 26 in Columbus. A one-loss OSU team might have a better chance at a playoff spot than one-loss Michigan, but that might depend on how the Buckeyes’ game against Notre Dame ages. The Irish taking down USC on Nov. 26 opens up a door on a few levels.

As of now, there are 3 potential bowl destinations for Michigan. Should it make the playoff, the Wolverines will head to either Atlanta, Georgia for the Peach Bowl or Glendale, Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl. Both CFP semifinals are set for Dec. 31. Advancing through either of those would put them in Inglewood, California at SoFi Stadium on Jan. 9 for the national title game.

Getting left out of the playoff would mean the Rose Bowl on Jan. 2.
