Wolverine TV: Steve Clinkscale, Kirk Campbell preview UNLV
Michigan Wolverines defensive backs coach/co-defensive coordinator Steve Clinkscale and quarterbacks coach Kirk Campbell met with the media on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the Week 2 game against UNLV, which will provide a new set of challenges.
Clinkscale has been busy prepping his guys for an offense helmed by Doug Brumfield, who has a big arm and is coming off a week where the Rebels scored 44 points against Bryant.
“Their quarterback definitely stands out,” Clinkscale said. “He’s got a strong arm. You saw how many points they put up. He overthrew two or three other touchdowns. Guys wide open, and he just overthrew them by a couple feet. You always see a big difference from week one to week two, I think they’ll probably correct that.
“He’ll be a lot more, his timing will be better, the receivers will run under the ball. So I think he’s the first one that stands out. They have a couple of receivers who are really fast guys, and a returner as well who can go from point A to point B and change to put points on the board in no time.”

Kirk Campbell weighs in on Michigan passing game
Campbell called plays on Saturday in the season-opener and watched J.J. McCarthy throw for 280 yards and three touchdowns. The run game projects to lead the way, but they were happy with being able to swerve in the other direction.
“I don’t think there’s a better offense in the country that can prepare you to play on Sundays,” Campbell said. “We’re under center, we’re running play-action, we’re running drop back game, we’re running empty, we do everything. I think that will speak for itself when we net results. Plus, we’re at the University of Michigan. There’s no other better place to play.”
“There was a conscious effort to make sure that our play-action game marries our run game Been doing various studies throughout the season — what are various NFL teams [doing]? There are some good ones locally that we know about, that have been good at the play-action game. Studying them, going back to teams in 2013 — whatever it is, making sure we have the best play-action game that marries our run game.”
