Michigan football was rocked by the news that tight end Erick All will move on from the program, but another at the position made the decision to move on. Sophomore tight end Louis Hansen announced Monday he will enter the transfer portal with 3 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Hansen, a Dover, Massachusetts native, was a 4-star recruit and No. 375 player in the country in the 2021 recruiting class, according to the On3 Consensus. He appeared in 3 career games at Michigan against Northern Illinois in 2021 ad Hawaii and UConn in 2022. He did not record a statistic during his time in Ann Arbor. Hansen was the team’s Scout Team Offensive Player of the Week last season for helping the team prepare for a 33-7 win over Northwestern.

Michigan’s tight end room was loaded over the last two seasons with All and Luke Schoonmaker emerging as targets. This year, All’s production was replaced by Schoonmaker and emerging freshman Colston Loveland, along with sophomore walk-on Max Bredeson and graduates Joel Honigford and Carter Selzer.

Hansen played receiver, tight end and defensive end in high school and caught 39 passes for 548 yards and 8 touchdowns in 8 games during his junior season in 2019. His senior season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hansen was part of a 2021 recruiting class that included running back Donovan Edwards, quarterback J.J. McCarthy, linebacker Junior Colson, safety Rod Moore and others. Now, he will look to make an impact elsewhere with 3 seasons of eligibility remaining.

The transfer portal officially opened on Dec. 5 and is expected to have a record amount of traffic. Michigan will likely be involved with both players leaving and entering the program and backfilling roster needs, as they did with center Olu Oluwatimi, EDGE Eyabi Okie and DT Cam Goode this past offseason.
