Michigan football teammates react to addition of transfer Eyabi Anoma
Michigan football surprised many this week with the addition of transfer Eyabi Anoma to the EDGE group on the roster. He is eligible immediately as a graduate transfer and has two years remaining should he go that route.
Anoma, who measured in at 6-5, 244 upon his arrival in Ann Arbor, was discussed by a few of his teammates on Friday during their sessions with the media. Junior running back Blake Corum, who comes from the same high school program as Anoma, is excited to see what he can bring to the table.
“He’s a baller,” Corum said. “He’s gonna help big time. We just got to get him the playbook. He’ll be on the field causing havoc soon. I’m glad to have him here.”
Anoma enrolled at Michigan this week and arrived to the football program on Thursday. Junior EDGE Jaylen Harrell will have the chance to play with him and is looking forward to the opportunity to get to know him.
“He got here and he’s around,” Harrell said. “Welcomed him in with open arms. Cool guy. Excited to be ready to learn, and I’m helping him a little bit with the playbook and stuff like that.”
Anoma has a complicated past and Michigan will be his fourth school in four years. The past is the past and his new teammates will treat it as such.
“We keep that out of it,” he said. “I don’t even know why he left the other schools. We know he’s here. He’s cool. He can be a great teammate for us. We don’t really worry about what happened in the past.”

Eyabi Anoma’s road to Michigan
Anoma, who has spent time at Alabama, Houston, and UT Martin, entered the transfer portal on Aug. 15. Michigan was involved in his recruiting during the 2018 cycle and he played for Associate Head Coach Biff Poggi at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Maryland. Michigan fans will recognize that as the school that produced Corum and junior linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green and freshman EDGE Derrick Moore, among others.
Anoma was the No. 3 overall player in the 2018 class and an On3 Consensus Five-Star Plus recruit, meaning he was listed as five-star on each of the major recruiting services. After receiving little playing time at Alabama, he was dismissed for a violation of team rules and academic issues.
Anoma transferred to Houston in 2019 but was also dismissed from the program. He transferred to UT Martin and sat out in 2020 due to NCAA rules. Last season, he was an All-Ohio Valley Conference pick and on the OVC All-Newcomer team, notching 36 tackles (9.5 for loss) and six sacks on the year playing the JACK position. He entered the transfer portal for a third time on Aug. 15 before enrolling at Michigan.
Anoma said on Thursday he will dedicate the rest of his football career to his grandmother after he completed his undergrad work.
