The 2025 recruits that decommitted from Michigan football
Michigan Wolverines football reeled in a 22-member 2025 signing class that ranks No. 9 in the nation. Michigan had more members of the haul at different points, though, with some ending up elsewhere. Here’s a look at the eight recruits that decommitted throughout the process.

Four-star TE Andrew Olesh, Center Valley (Pa.) Southern Lehigh: Penn State
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 55 overall, No. 3 tight end
Michigan’s tight end class: Three-star Eli Owens
Andrew Olesh committed to Michigan in July but had a wandering eye throughout the fall. He flipped to Penn State Friday, spurning the Wolverines, Oregon and others.
Four-star S Ivan Taylor, Winter Garden (Fla.) West Orange: Alabama
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 65 overall, No. 7 safety
Michigan’s safety class: Four-star Elijah Dotson, four-star Kainoa Winston, four-star Jordan Young (safety)
Ivan Taylor is a flip machine. He originally switched from Notre Dame to Michigan in July, and then changed from the Wolverines to Alabama late in the process (Nov. 18).
Four-star QB Brady Hart, Cocoa (Fla.) High
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 233 overall, No. 19 quarterback
Michigan’s quarterback class: Five-star+ Bryce Underwood
Brady Hart was never committed to Michigan in 2025, but he is set to be a freshman next season after reclassifying and flipping to Texas A&M. Hart was the Wolverines’ top-100 signal-caller pledge in 2026 but will instead get to college a year early.
Four-star EDGE Jaylen Williams, Palatine (Ill.) High: Wisconsin
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 246 overall, No. 20 defensive lineman
Michigan’s EDGE class: Four-star Nate Marshall, four-star Julius Holly
Jaylen Williams was Michigan’s first commit in over a month when he made his pledge in June, but he started to look at Wisconsin more and more during the fall, and the Badgers pulled off the flip Nov. 20.
Four-star CB Chris Ewald, Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna: Miami
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 207 overall, No. 28 cornerback
Michigan’s cornerback class: Four-star Shamari Earls, four-star Jayden Sanders

Ewald committed to Michigan so long ago — on Dec. 16, 2022 — that many fans may have forgotten he was once the first member of the class. In January of this year, he decommitted, before eventually choosing hometown Miami. Ewald was the No. 30 overall recruit in the nation when he chose Michigan but has fallen in the rankings since.
Four-star WR Phillip Wright, Destrehan (La.) High: LSU
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 363 overall, No. 54 wide receiver
Michigan’s wide receiver class: Four-star Andrew Marsh, four-star Jacob Washington, three-star Jamar Browder
A speedster, Phillip Wright decommitted from Michigan less than a month after making his verbal pledge. He switched to LSU and has inked with the Tigers.
Four-star QB Carter Smith, Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot: Wisconsin
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 205 overall, No. 15 quarterback
Michigan’s quarterback class: Five-star+ Bryce Underwood
A dual-threat quarterback, Carter Smith pledged to Michigan in November 2023 and was a leader of the class for nearly a full year. But Smith weighed his options as the Wolverines looked to flip five-star+ quarterback Bryce Underwood, the headliner of Michigan’s class, and ended up flipping to Wisconsin Nov. 24.
Three-star LB Mantrez Walker, Buford (Ga.) High: Colorado
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 799 overall, No. 88 linebacker
Michigan’s linebacker class: Four-star Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, three-star Chase Taylor
Mantrez Walker decommitted from U-M in September 2023, seven months after he pledged. He took a look around and wound up at Colorado.
