Head coach Jim Harbaugh has finalized his 2022 coaching staff, promoting some and going outside for another. Vanderbilt D.C. Jesse Minter is a rising star in the profession, and he’ll replace Mike Macdonald. He’s familiar with the Macdonald defense, having worked with him at Baltimore, and is also an outstanding recruiter.
On offense, we talk about the impact Ronald Bellamy can make working with the wide receivers. Harbaugh initially hired Bellamy to work with that group — Bellamy is a former Michigan wide receiver, after all — but he coached safeties in year one. He’s long been viewed as an up and comer in the profession.
Jay Harbaugh’s move to safeties is also an intriguing one. He’s coached a number of positions on the staff, and he’s also proven to be an outstanding recruiter. He was reportedly the one who identified under-the-radar talents Hassan Haskins and Ronnie bell, two huge contributors the last several years.
Harbaugh is reminiscent of former Michigan assistant Jedd Fisch, now at Arizona. The Michigan assistant didn’t play a lot of football, none in college, but he has an outstanding football mind.

Michigan basketball hosts Purdue Thursday in a big game
On the hardwood, first place Purdue comes to Ann Arbor Thursday night looking for a win to solidly its hold at the top of the standings. Michigan played the Boilermakers to the wire in West Lafayette last week but feel short in an 82-76 loss.
Michigan’s press gave Purdue problems at the end of the game. Coach Matt Painter likely paid more attention to it in practice, though his team played Illinois Tuesday (and won big).
Purdue is loaded this year, perhaps its best shot for a Final Four. Michigan needs a win to help its NCAA Tournament resume, one that needs bolstering. The Wolverines re 6-5 in conference play and play Ohio State Saturday.
The first 10,000 Michigan fans to show up Saturday will receive a blue “rally towels” in what’s being billed as a “blue out” of Crisler Arena.
