Stout has played mostly boundary corner but also a fair amount of nickel over the last few years, so the Michigan coaching staff likely sees him as a fit for the role that Mike Sainristil has held down over the last two seasons. They cross-train all of their players, so this seems like it could be a fit. It also is potential competition in a room that likely includes Ja’Den McBurrows, Myles Pollard and others competing for Sainristil’s role ahead of the 2024 season.
Michigan is returning to the College Football Playoff to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide. Still, roster building for next season through the transfer portal officially started Monday with the window opening up, and the portal has been a major supplementary piece over the last few years.
Michigan added nine transfers to the mix last offseason in offensive tackles Myles Hinton and LaDarius Henderson, center Drake Nugent, tight end AJ Barner, quarterback Jack Tuttle, linebacker Ernest Hausmann, EDGE Josaiah Stewart, cornerback Josh Wallace and kicker James Turner.
Next up for the Wolverines is the Rose Bowl College Football Playoff semifinal on Jan. 1, set for a 5 p.m. ET kickoff from Pasadena.
