Those who stayed with Michigan football for the 2021 season were rewarded with a 12-1 season and a Big Ten Championship. Those who did not found homes elsewhere with new opportunities. At the end of the day, it worked out for everyone.

Here is a look at where Michigan’s scholarship transfers wound up and what they did during the 2021 season.

Offensive tackle Willie Allen (UMass)

This was an odd one. Allen transferred to Michigan ahead of the 2021 season but transferred out right after spring football. He appeared in four games at UMass and played only 56 snaps.

Linebacker Jordan Anthony (Troy)

Anthony had 35 tackles (0.5 for loss) in 12 games this season.

Offensive lineman Zach Carpenter (Indiana)

Some had penciled Carpenter into a spot on Michigan football’s offensive line this season, but he elected to transfer out. He played center in Ann Arbor, tough primarily played guard for the Hoosiers and started three of the five games he played.

Running back Zach Charbonnet (UCLA)

Charbonnet was the most successful Michigan transfer on the football field. He finished the regular season with 203 carries, 1,137 yards and 13 touchdowns. Charbonnet is considered a potential NFL Draft prospect as an early entrant.

Linebacker Adam Fakih (Duke)

Fakih played in 12 games but did not record a statistic this season.

Running back Gaige Garcia (Lehigh)

Garcia finished the season with 16 carries for 72 yards.

Quarterback Ren Hefley (Presbyterian)

Hefley quarterbacked the famed “never kick” offense that led to a 2-9 season. However, he completed 348-of-558 passes for 3,879 yards with 39 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. Ten of his 39 touchdowns came in the season debut game.

Wide receiver Giles Jackson (Washington)

Jackson, who returned to Michigan in Week 2 with the Huskies, was not a huge factor for Washington. He had eight catches for 87 yards while adding eight carries for 45 yards. Jackson also had 12 punt returns and 19 kick returns for a total of 523 yards.

Defensive back Jaylen Kelly-Powell (Akron)

Kelly-Powell was the starting safety for the Zips and finished with 73 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack and one pass defended.

Wide receiver Oliver Martin (Nebraska)

Martin, who spent time at Michigan and Iowa prior to Nebraska, had 10 catches for 170 yards and a touchdown this season.

Quarterback Joe Milton (Tennessee)

A former Michigan starter, Milton earned the starting job for the Volunteers but was benched early in the season for Hendon Hooker. He played in eight games and finished the season completing 32-of-62 of his throws for 375 yards and two touchdowns. Milton added 28 runs for 129 yards and two scores.

Quarterback Dylan McCaffrey (Northern Colorado)

McCaffrey transferred out of Michigan to play for his father at Northern Colorado but had injury problems that kept him sidelined at times. He finished with 1,333 yards and five touchdowns with seven interceptions.

Linebacker William Mohan (Tennessee)

Mohan joined his former Michigan teammate Milton in Knoxville and finished with nine tackles in 247 snaps played in 2021.

Defensive tackle Philip Paea (Utah State

Paea finished the season with 14 tackles and two tackles for loss in 14 games this season.

Quarterback Brandon Peters (Illinois)

Peters completed 91-of-169 passes for 1,170 yards with seven touchdowns and four interceptions for the Illini in 2021.

Defensive back Hunter Reynolds (Utah State)

The former Michigan walk-on had 83 tackles and an interception this season to go along with a sack and three passes defended. He played 801 snaps for Utah State this year.
