Michigan was ranked No. 3 nationally in the first rendition of the College Football Playoff rankings, behind No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Georgia. The Maize and Blue have been No. 2 in the AP poll all season long. Johnson said he saw the rankings but doesn’t make much of them.
“I’ve heard about them, yeah. I’m not too worried about them. Just worried about this week against Purdue,” Johnson said.
Johnson was also asked about Purdue quarterback Hudson Card, who’s completing less than 60 percent of his passes this season after playing much better at Texas a year ago.
“He’s a great quarterback. He has a good arm, arm talent. He can scramble, he can run. He’s played in big games, so he’s a real talented quarterback who can get the ball out there to his receivers. It’s going to be a good matchup for us.”

Michigan plays its fourth night game of the season this weekend against the Boilermakers, 7:30 p.m. ET at The Big House.
“We have more time to prepare during that day, get our bodies right, stay focused throughout the day,” Johnson said. “Not really much different preparation wise, but more time to relax our bodies throughout the day and get our minds right for the game.”
Keegan said Michigan was motivated to make a statement against Michigan State, amid all the outside noise surrounding the program with the investigation into alleged illegal in-person scouting. He also mentioned that the MSU assaults in the U-M tunnel last season also had the team fired up, even if they didn’t talk much about it publicly prior to the 49-0 beatdown in East Lansing.
“The thing that happened last year in the tunnel really motivated us,” Keegan admitted. “I know guys were like, ‘Don’t let it distract you,’ things like that, ‘we’re over it.’ No, we weren’t over it. We wanted to come in there and really beat down on them. It was nice. Good time.”
