Michigan has jumped to No. 22 overall in the 2023 On3 Consensus National Team Recruiting Rankings following the verbal commitment of Youngstown (Ohio) Chaney three-star athlete Jason Hewlett Jr.

Hewlett becomes the four prospect from Ohio to join the Wolverines in four days. Ranked in the top 23 among all senior Ohio native prospects, per the On3 Consensus, chose Michigan over Kentucky. Hewlett decommitted from Cincinnati on Thanksgiving Day after 14 months of being a pledge.

Hewlett first visited Ann Arbor for the Illinois game two weekends ago after picking up the offer earleir this month. He’s expected to return for an official visit in December with fellow 2023 teammate and three-star cornerback D’Juan Waller Jr.

“I was keeping a level head and keeping everything in mind (during the visit),” Hewlett told The Wolverine. Everybody at Michigan was very down to earth and very chill. It was something that I didn’t expect out of a big school like Michigan. Everyone is held accountable there.”
