Michigan football will take on the Colorado State Rams in Saturday afternoon’s opening game in Ann Arbor. After weeks of preparation, game week is upon us and bettors are ready to fill out their tickets ahead of the true opening week.

Michigan is currently a 27.5-point favorite over the Rams on Saturday with the over/under set at 58.5, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The Wolverines have a 1-0 advantage in the series history, beating Colorado State 24-14 in the 1994 Holiday Bowl.

The Wolverines have huge aspirations for the season after winning the Big Ten and making the College Football Playoff in 2021. Much of the team returns from last year’s run with no faces thrown in the mix and emerging players in positions of need up and down the roster.

Saturday’s biggest storyline will be the continuation of the starting quarterback battle. Senior Cade McNamara will get the start in Week 1 with sophomore J.J. McCarthy getting the Week 2 nod. After then, the staff will evaluate the position and make a decision moving forward. McNamara is the incumbent and gets the first crack at solidifying his position as QB1.

Michigan quote of the day

“Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards are your two number ones. As we had foreseen they’ll be getting most of the carries. I would call the third back right now CJ Stokes, for purely getting in there and running the football. As he continues to learn the offense in terms of the third down in the protections, we’d probably lean more toward Tavi Dunlap as the third guy but they’re very close. And also the third guy is A-Gash [Isaiah Gash] because he’s tremendous in the short yardage running right now and being the third down back. So feel really strong with those five backs going into the beginning of the season.”
