Michigan football has a new member of the family added to the program this season. The program officially welcomed 15-year-old Noah Wells on Monday as part of its partnership with the Team IMPACT initiative.

Wells, who chose jersey No. 10 thanks to his birthday and Tom Brady fandom, lives with Jeune’s Syndrome. This affects bone growth in his chest and ribcage and requires regular surgeries. His parents are Michigan alums, so his fit with the program as an honorary member is a natural one.

“If I could use one word to describe this, I’d say ‘exciting’,” Noah Wells said in a statement. “I love Michigan football. I have been a fan my whole life, and it is just really exciting to be part of it.”

Wells signed a National Letter of Intent with Michigan during a team meeting on Monday with his family surrounding him. He has been attending practices, touring team facilities and getting to know the current Wolverine players. The Wells family was also in attendance for Saturday’s 51-7 win over Colorado State. They have an open invite to attend all games this eason.

“We are so thankful that Team IMPACT puts this program together to match up kids with teams and really make the kids’ dreams come true,” Josh Well, his father, said. “Noah has had 66 surgeries, and he’s spent a lot of time in the hospital. 10-, 12-week stays at times. The doctors and nurses who are advocates and supporters for children and families are really part of the family. We are just so impressed with Team IMPACT. We are all living a dream through this right now and to see Noah experience this and be part of the team is amazing.”

Michigan and Team IMPACT alum Larry Prout Jr., who signed with the program back in 2016, will be Wells’ mentor during his time with the team. Tavierre Dunlap, Mike Morris, Mike Sainristil, Carter Selzer and Davis Warren have been set as the Wells’ families team leaders, but the whole roster is set to be part of the experience.

Michigan quote of the day

“I think it’s just a mentality that we want to have that everybody gets a chance. Everybody eats. A huge thing for us is when one person makes a play, we all make a play. I’ve said this before, I would love at the end of the guy to have a guy that could have 12, 13 sacks. Right now, we want to spread it around, we want to bring different guys. I think we got all three levels of the defense involved with pressure. It keeps offenses off-balanced. If the guys buy into it, and continue to buy into it, I think we can have a lot of success.”
