Michigan football added some talent via the transfer portal on Tuesday afternoon in the form of Arizona State offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson, who entered the portal on Monday.

The 2nd day of transfer portal madness finally saw Michigan boost its roster for 2023 and another December offensive line transfer. Last year it was Virginia’s Olu Oluwatimi, who plugged right in at center. This year, Henderson comes after starting 29 games over the last 3 years at Arizona State and serving as a team captain. Henderson missed the last 6 games of the season with a broken bone in his hand.

Henderson, who stands at 6-5, 310 pounds, has been impressive during his time at Arizona State, enrolling as a 17-year-old and starting 10 games in 2019 at left tackle. He played both guard and tackle during the COVID season in 2020 before starting all 13 games at left guard in 2021.

Henderson played guard this season at ASU, but sources say that Michigan is looking at him to compete for a tackle spot in 2023. He brings plenty of positional flexibility, especially with uncertain futures for Trevor Keegan and Zak Zinter, Michigan’s pair of guards that may or may not opt in for another year in Ann Arbor. Should he factor in at tackle, he would contend with Jeffrey Persi and potentially Karsen Barnhart and Trente Jones for a job.

Henderson is a fringe pro prospect that, at worst, increases the depth and gives them a guy who can play 4 spots along the offensive line. At best, he plugs into a starting lineup that has a chance to come off defending another Joe Moore Award and keep its smashmouth identity in tact.
