Michigan football landed another player from the transfer portal on Thursday in linebacker Ernest Hausmann, formerly of Nebraska.

Hausmann, who has 3 years of eligibility remaining, played in every game and started 7 games this year as a true freshman and notched 54 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery this season at Nebraska.

Hausmann, whose strengths are his pure speed and athleticism, will likely compete for a starting job on next year’s team next to Junior Colson. We do not know yet if Michael Barrett will return yet and Nikhai Hill-Green was a non-factor this year due to injury. That leaves a bit of a light room other than Jimmy Rolder. Hausmann has Big Ten starting experience and that can never be in short supply at Michigan. At worst he provides some quality depth. At best, it is another home run addition for head coach Jim Harbaugh out of the portal.

The addition of Hausmann gives Michigan a pair of starting-caliber players out of the transfer portal so far this offseason with offensive lineman LaDarius Henderson being the other. The recruiting class has taken a lot of heat, and rightfully so, but the Michigan staff has been active in the portal in backfilling roster needs.
