WATCH: Who's the next star in Michigan's wide receiver room?
The Michigan Wolverines continue their prep for the 2024 season, and so do we as we head into Week 3 of the positional breakdown series. This week, we discussed Michigan’s wide receiver room and the group it brings into the new year.
U-M has 9 scholarship wide receivers on the roster heading into the season, headlined by junior Tyler Morris and a young and intriguing set of players around him. Most believe the third-year Wolverine will lead the way in the passing game, stepping into the role left behind by Roman Wilson.
TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome and Clayton Sayfie ran through all 9 wide receivers and how they fit for Michigan this year, in addition to taking fan questions at the end of the show. Morris’ 38-yard touchdown in the Rose Bowl win against Alabama might be one of the plays that springboards him into WR1 status at Michigan.
“Springboard is a great way to put it because… they talked about this when you rewatch the spring game and it was the broadcast team about how his roommates who are Will Johnson and Colston Loveland naturally like the rest of us, they’re watching that Rose Bowl game a lot and it would come on,” Sayfie said on the show. “Tyler Morris told me he would come downstairs and the Rose Bowl is on. And if it was that 3rd and 10 from the 38-yard line, every time he saw it, it just kind of kept his confidence up and he’s kind of rode that into this next season.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
He’s become a leader in the room, which has been huge for these guys. He was saying this spring that he’s told a guy like Samaj Morgan, ‘Hey, we love what you did last year, but we need more out of you.’ That’s something Tyler Morris wouldn’t have said a year ago because you had other leaders there, but he stepped up in that role for them. I think he’s going to be the main target on this team, whether it’s him or Colston Loveland… that remains to be seen. But from a wide receiver perspective, that’s going to be him.
