Michigan football WR Andrel Anthony enters transfer portal
Michigan sophomore wide receiver Andrel Anthony entered the transfer portal on Wednesday night, according to On3’s Hayes Fawcett. Anthony will have 2 years of eligibility remaining in his next college destination.
Anthony was a three-star recruit out of East Lansing, Michigan and spurned hometown Michigan State to join the Wolverines. He recorded 19 receptions for 328 yards and 4 touchdowns in his two seasons in Ann Arbor. Anthony’s crowning achievement at Michigan was a 6-catch, 155-yard and 2 touchdown performance at Michigan State last season.
“I would like to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love,” Anthony posted to social media. “Growing up as a kid, I always wanted to play here, and to say I loved playing at the University of Michigan would be an understatement. I’d like to say this was not an easy decision at all.
“I have made friendships and relationships that will last forever. Thank you Coach Harbaugh for believing in me since I was a 13-year-old kid at summer camp. Thank you teammates, especially the “crew”f ro taking me in and pushing me every day. I love each and every one of y’all and couldn’t have asked for a better group to come in and go on this journey with.
After praying countless hours and talking with my family, I will be entering the transfer portal.”
Anthony was expected to be the next in line for opportunities at Michigan, but his role never quite expanded this season. He had only 7 receptions for 80 yards this year and had trouble taking the sophomore leap that was expected of him.

“He could be whatever he wants to be,” wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy said earlier this season. “He could be a superstar. Andrel has all physical traits — size, speed, athleticism. He’s smart. He’s passionate about football, loves football, the way he attacks it every day.
“It’s one of those things … keep working, working, working, and boom. Much like last year for Drel [against MSU] — boom. That shining moment comes. Drel, no doubt in my mind, will be ready for it. He shows up every day.”
Michigan’s wide receiver room will likely be led by Roman Wilson next season with the possibility that Cornelius Johnson returns. From there, AJ Henning, Darrius Clemons, Tyler Morris and Amorion Walker fill out a group that will need to take a big step this offseason.
