Another NFL Draft is over, and Michigan Wolverines football came out as a big winner once again. The Maize and Blue had two first-round picks, and saw five or more players drafted for the fourth consecutive event.

Defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan’s highest-drafted defender of all time, was selected by his hometown Detroit Lions with the second overall pick, while defensive back Daxton Hill was taken by the Cincinnati Bengals at No. 31.

That marked the third time head coach Jim Harbaugh and Co. have had two first-round picks since 2017. Linebacker Devin Bush and defensive end Rashan Gary were both chosen in the first round in 2019, while cornerback Jourdan Lewis and defensive end Taco Charlton were taken in the first round in 2017. Prior to 2017, Michigan hadn’t had multiple first-rounders since 2005 (Braylon Edwards and Marlin Jackson).

Hutchinson became Michigan’s 11th top-five selection in history and highest pick since offensive tackle Jake Long was the No. 1 overall choice in 2008.

Outside linebacker David Ojabo reunited with former Michigan defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald, now the coordinator in Baltimore, with the Ravens (No. 45 overall in the second round). Workhorse running back Hassan Haskins was selected by the Tennessee Titans, a run-heavy team that should suit him well, with the No. 131 pick in the fourth round, and offensive lineman Andrew Stueber is a New England Patriots after hearing his name called in the seventh round.

Harbaugh has now seen 44 of his Michigan players picked during his seven drafts at the helm in Ann Arbor. At least one Wolverine has come off the board in the all 84 NFL Drafts, dating back to the event’s conception in 1938, with Michigan and USC being the only two schools to hold that accomplishment.

Here are some more numbers to know surrounding Michigan and the NFL Draft.

By The Numbers: Michigan Football And The 2022 NFL Draft

2 Straight drafts in which Michigan has had a running back come off the board, after a 12-year drought between Mike Hart in 2008 and Chris Evans in 2021. Michigan’s all-time leading rusher, Hart is now the team’s running backs coach, and Haskins benefitted greatly from his guidance last season, rushing for 1,327 yards and 20 touchdowns.

4 Straight drafts with a first-round pick, a feat Michigan accomplished for the first time since 1993-96. The Wolverines actually registered at least one first rounder in six straight drafts from 1991-96, spanning the Gary Moeller and early Lloyd Carr eras.

5 Michigan defenders have been chosen in the top 10, with Hutchinson joining Charles Woodson (No. 4, 1998), Curtis Greer (No. 6, 1980), Mel Owens (No. 9, 1981) and Bush (10th in 2019).

5th Michigan player to be taken by the Baltimore Ravens during Jim Harbaugh’s tenure is Ojabo. The Wolverine coach’s brother, John Harbaugh, is the head coach of the organization, of course. Ojabo joins former teammate Ben Mason on the roster.

6 Michigan Wolverines now reside on the New England Patriots’ roster, with Stueber joining the team. He joins safety Jabrill Peppers, offensive lineman Michael Onwenu, linebacker Cam McGrone, kicker Quinn Nordin and outside linebacker Josh Uche. Stueber played with all but Peppers during his time in Ann Arbor.

14-Mile drive from Dearborn (Mich.) Divine Child — Hutchinson’s high school — to Ford Field, the Detroit Lions’ home stadium. A native of nearby Plymouth, Mich., Hutchinson didn’t grow up a Lions fan, instead rooting for former Michigan quarterback Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, but later admitted he was hoping to stay home in Detroit. He got his wish, and doesn’t have far to move.

49 Percent of the Tennessee Titans’ offensive plays were rushes last season, the second-highest mark in the league behind the Philadelphia Eagles, giving Haskins opportunity to receive carries despite being behind star Derrick Henry.

51 First-round picks for Michigan, with Hutchinson and Hill joining elite company over the weekend.

392 Overall NFL Draft picks for Michigan, which slots fifth among programs across the country. Notre Dame leads the way with 522, followed by USC (519), Ohio State (479) and Oklahoma (409). Alabama is just behind Michigan with 391.

2007 Was the last time before this year that Michigan had three players selected in the first 50 picks. That year saw the following Wolverines come off the board in the top 50: Cornerback Leon Hall (Cincinnati Bengals, 18), defensive tackle Alan Branch (Arizona Cardinals, 33), defensive end/outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley (Pittsburgh Steelers, 46) and linebacker David Harris (New York Jets, 47).
