Newsstand: Frank Nazar signs with Blackhawks, immediately scores first-career goal
The Michigan Wolverines were dealt a swift exit in the Frozen Four in a 4-0 loss to Boston College on Thursday night. But a few short days later, star forward Frank Nazar signed with the Chicago Blackhawks, the team that selected him No. 13 in 2022, and made noise at the NHL level.
On his first shot attempt of his career, Nazar grabbed a pass from Seth Jones and skated toward Pyotr Kochetkov on a breakaway, and beat him on the stick side 10:05 into the first period to help the Blackhawks take a 1-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes.
Nazar signed a three-year contract this weekend that runs through 2025-26 with a $950,000 salary cap hit. He projects to be one of the players the Blackhawks build around along with No. 1 overall pick in 2023 Connor Bedard. Chicago is 23-52-5 on the season.
During this past season at Michigan, Nazar scored 17 goals with 24 assists in 41 games, including three game-winners in the process. Denver would knock off Boston College 2-0 on Saturday in St. Paul to win the national title.

Michigan quote of the day
“In total, Michigan has five quarterbacks who are currently competing for the job. That includes graduate Jack Tuttle, senior Davis Warren, juniors Jayden Denegal and Alex Orji, and freshman Jadyn Davis. There are capable players there, and Sherrone Moore needs to be careful that his actions in the portal don’t make one of those players choose to enter when Michigan would prefer them to stay.
So, Sherrone Moore needs to keep that quarterback room together, and he’s going to need to evaluate who goes in, but at this point, if you told me Michigan doesn’t take a quarterback in the Transfer Portal, I wouldn’t be surprised.”
