Michigan HC Sherrone Moore reveals goals for offseason: 'Stronger, more explosive'

The Michigan Wolverines have a ton of momentum heading into bowl season coming off a win over Ohio State to finish the year 7-5. The ReliQuest Bowl matchup against Alabama is a measuring stick that head coach Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines are eager to play.
The game is a matchup of last year’s Rose Bowl, a 27-20 win for Michigan in the College Football Playoff semifinal. Moore said Tuesday night he is excited for the opportunity.
“A rematch of last year and I know that was probably part of the bowl matchup but just excited for a great program that we get to play and an opportunity to play football again,” Moore said. “Our guys are excited and all the guys that’ll be there will be ready to play. We’re just locked and ready to go. We’ve had two really good days already, kind of gave them a week off to just kind of get their minds right, their vibes right, and finals and stuff and study and got back into it yesterday and it’s been great.
Michigan’s roster is going to have a different look to it for the game with expected NFL Draft opt-outs in addition to the absence of guys who have transferred from the team. But the bowl practices give them an opportunity to look at younger players while also getting the early enrollees, including QB Bryce Underwood, some early reps.
That said, Michigan is not viewing this as an extension of spring ball, or an exhibition. It wants to win the game.

“I just want to win,” Moore said. “We’re gonna do everything we can with all the guys that we have there to go win. That’s the number one goal, to go win. We talked about recommitting just like we did two weeks ago in the bye-week, so recommitting to your whys, recommitting to each other and doing everything we can to be successful. I think we’re in a really good place right now mentally, physically, spiritually and just want to do everything we can to win.”
Moore has had some time to evaluate the program since the season ended – including an offensive coordinator change – and now has a better idea of what he wants Michigan to improve under his watch. The work for this offseason and the priorities set begin now.
“Just kind of like you saw in [the Ohio State game], the physicality, I want to turn that up to another level,” Moore said. “The toughness, the strain that we had in that game was outstanding, but I want to get bigger. I want to get faster. I want to get stronger, more explosive on offense. I thought defensively we played as good as a game as you could against that team and so I want to do that and just continue to build as a team because that’s what it’s really all about.
“There’s a lot of talented individuals on our team, but being the best team possible is the only way you win, so I just want to continue to build our team and be the strongest team that we can be and be the best team for Michigan.”
