The Michigan Wolverines fell to 4-2 and 2-1 in Big Ten play on Saturday night with a 27-17 loss to Washington out in Seattle in a rematch of last season’s College Football Playoff National Championship game.

The game featured plenty of swings. Washington scored the first 14 points of the game, followed by Michigan scoring the next 17. The Huskies would close out the game with 13 points in a row to hold off a potential comeback effort from the U-M offense.

Head coach Sherrone Moore says that’s just how the game sometimes goes, especially when the quarterback – this time, Jack Tuttle – turns the ball over in key situations late.

“I don’t think there’s one thing,” Moore said. “This game is… it’s football. Momentum swings back and forth. I think that the big plays, the things that happened, helped them. They tied the game up, and then obviously they got 10 points off a short-field turnover. I think our defense did a great job adjusting in the second half, and it was hard for them to drive the ball down the field. It took some time. And, in the second half, in the fourth quarter, those two turnovers were huge. They got 10 points off of them. So, we got to do a better job taking care of the football in all aspects. Jack’s going to beat himself up about that, but we can’t let him do that. We got to uplift him, and as a team, take care of him.”

Michigan quote of the day

“Yeah, we’ve just gotta do a better job of closing the space, playing fundamentals. That’s the biggest thing. If we’re giving up short passes, then we’ve gotta clean up the tackle in the space. Those guys are athletic in space, but we just got to do a better job of rallying to the ball. And when we do that, we’re a pretty good defense, so we’ll continue to clean that up.”
