Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was back on the West Coast today and stopped by national powerhouse Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei.

Mater Dei, of course, is home to five-star 2026 Ohio State commit Chris Henry Jr., the No. 1 ranked wide receiver and No. 5 overall prospect nationally. Michigan is looking for an elite pass catcher this cycle and could make a move with Henry.

Henry has been committed to the Buckeyes since July of 2023. However, he has continued to take other visits and has expressed interest in programs like Oregon, Tennessee and Texas A&M.

“Every school in the country has asked if they have an opportunity,” Mater Dei recruiting coordinator, Rudy Cambero, recently told me. “At the end of the day, it’s going to come down to where he feels comfortable and what system fits him. I always tell coaches to talk to him and see what happens. He’s an Ohio State commit, but with everything going on in college football recruiting, you never know where these kids are going to end up.”

As I wrote earlier this week, Michigan has the NIL backing to pursue Henry and could put together a strong deal. Remember, Michigan’s revamped approach to NIL on the recruiting trail helped the Wolverines flip five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood away from LSU.

Underwood and new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who is set to bring a more balanced offensive attack to Ann Arbor, will also be key selling points for the Wolverines.

Henry isn’t the only Michigan target at Mater Dei.

The Wolverines have also offered four-star 2026 EDGE Shaun Scott, who made an unofficial visit for the BBQ at The Big House last July. Scott is considering Michigan along with programs like Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State and USC.

Michigan is also pursuing elite tight end Mark Bowman, who recently reclassified from the 2027 to the 2026 recruiting class. Bowman left Michigan out of his Top 12, but U-M will likely continue to stay in contact. Michigan tight ends coach Steve Casula visited him at Mater Dei earlier this month.

While at Mater Dei, Michigan extended an offer to rising 2027 defensive lineman Montana Toilolo, who also holds offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Kansas, Washington and others.

Michigan currently holds two commitments in its 2026 recruiting class — On300 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings and three-star Dallas (Texas) Parish Episcopal wide receiver Jaylen Pile.
