Michigan hockey will get to see one of its own close to home for the foreseeable future. Forward J.T. Compher, formerly of the Wolverines and most recently with the Colorado Avalance, signed a five-year deal worth $25.5 million.
Compher won the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022 and recorded a career-high 52 points last season. He joins former Michigan standouts Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp in the Motor City.
Compher has recorded 88 goals and 106 assists in 423 career games in Colorado and was a former captain with the Wolverines. He scored 39 goals and had 79 assists during his Michigan career in 107 games played.
His best season came in 2015-16 as a junior captain, scoring 16 goals and racking up 47 assists in 38 games played. This earned him AHCA All-American and All-Big Ten first-team honors. Compher was also one of 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award, finishing the season with points in 26 of his last 27 games.

Michigan quote of the day
“I’m not saying that Michigan should be favored against Georgia… but when I look at what Michigan has on this roster and how they’re made up physically; that’s the real advantage for Georgia. It’s the trenches. That’s how they’ve just drug people the last couple of years. That’s how they drug TCU in the national title game. I think the physicality at Michigan actually matches up OK for Georgia. And when I say they match up, I don’t mean they’re superior. I mean, they’re good enough to hold their own, should they find themselves in the game against Georgia.”
