Michigan hockey’s postseason run keeps chugging along with a blowout win over Michigan State on Saturday night at Yost Ice Arena. The Wolverines sent the Spartans home for the year with an 8-0 victory to advance to the semifinal of the Big Ten Tournament.

Captain Nick Blankenburg scored four points on the night (1 goal, 3 assists) for the first such game of his career. Seven Wolverines lit the lamp on the night with Johnny Beecher as the only multi-goal scorer on the night. Goalie Erik Portillo made 46 of 47 saves in the two games this weekend.

It was a dominant effort throughout the evening with Michigan finishing with a 41-24 advantage in shots on goal. All eight goals scored took place in the first two periods of play.

There are still other things to sort out before knowing the opponent coming next. The first round needs to finish itself out, but Michigan will host the Big Ten’s second-lowest remaining seed. Wisconsin/Notre Dame and Penn State/Ohio State will all play Game 3s in their series, so stay tuned.
