Newsstand: Michigan hockey set for NCAA Tournament matchup with North Dakota
Tweets Of The Day
Michigan hockey held practice in Maryland Heights, Mo., ahead of the first round of the NCAA Tournament against North Dakota (8:30 p.m. ET tonight on ESPNU). The Maize and Blue leads the all-time series 46-41-4, and the two teams haven’t played since 2016.
“They’re good. They’re really good off the rush, really good in transition,” Michigan head coach Brandon Naurato said. “They got some game-breaking players that can make plays. … Similar to Michigan State. I don’t know if they are as deep as State, but Jackson Blake’s a really good player. They have a lot of high-end talent. They are good defensively.”
“It’s going to be a physical game up and down the ice, and they got some guys that can make plays,” Michigan sophomore forward Gavin Brindley said. “Played against a lot of those guys. They’re a hell of a team. These are the best games that you want to be in.”
This is Michigan’s 41st NCAA Tournament berth, a record, as is the Wolverines’ 27 Frozen Four appearances and nine national titles.
North Dakota won the NCHC’s regular-season championship before falling to Omaha in the conference tournament semifinal. UND, eight-time national champions and an ex-WCHA foe, went 2-1 against B1G competition this season, beating Wisconsin and splitting with Minnesota at home.
