Michigan junior quarterback Jayden Denegal will enter the transfer portal, he reported on social media early Monday morning. The California native will have two years of eligibility remaining after playing sparingly at U-M.

A 6-5, 235-pounder, Denegal played in one game during mop-up duty in 2022 and six more last season, completing 4-of-5 passes with one touchdown. He also ran four times for 10 yards to earn his second varsity letter, but he didn’t register any statistics this year.

“I have loved my time at the University of Michigan,” Denegal wrote in his goodbye. “I have had an opportunity to develop in one of the most iconic football programs in the nation, and while I am a Wolverine through and through, I have decided to enter the portal. I have two years of eligibility and it is my desire to showcase my talents and skills on the football field on Saturdays.

“I sincerely thank all of my coaches and professors who have genuinely been there for me throughout my time here. To coach Jim Harbaugh, thank you for giving me the opportunity to contribute and experience excellence with team No. 144 and a National Championship. I love Michigan. I love the Wolverines. Go Blue!”

Denegal follows several other Michigan players to the portal, including wide receiver Tyler Morris, punter Tommy Doman, running back Cole Cabana, and others. More are expected to follow with U-M needing to pare its roster to 105 players.

Watch for more on transfers in and out in the days and weeks to come.
