Nugent has started 24-straight games for the Cardinal at center and will likely compete for the starting job in Ann Arbor next season. It is the 2nd-straight season that Michigan has pulled a center out of the portal after landing Olu Oluwatimi last December. He would go on to win the Rimington and Outland awards.
Nugent joined the Cardinal program as a sophomore and spent three years in Palo Alto, with this past year, his senior season, being his breakthrough. Nugent appeared in all 12 games as the starter at center in the regular season and was one of the veteran leaders of the offensive line, earning honorable mention All-Pac-12 honors. He has one additional super-senior season to burn.
Nugent played high school football at Littleton (Colo.) Highlands Ranch, where he was a three-star prospect.

Our Chris Balas said that there were previous rumblings that Nugent had interest in Michigan, which came to a head this weekend.
“We’ve heard he’s friends with Michigan frosh Connor Jones,” Balas said. “He was the No. 1,016 overall recruit in the 2019 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.”
Nugent is the 5th player that the Wolverines have added through the portal since the window opened on Dec. 5, the 3rd on the offensive line. Previous additions included former Arizona State tackle/guard LaDarius Henderson and Hinton. Michigan has also added the services of former Nebraska linebacker Ernest Hausmann and Coastal Carolina EDGE Josiah Stewart. All are expected to compete for major playing time with the Wolverines.
