Michigan has scored a key commitment on the recruiting trail.

Four-star New Orleans (La.) Archbishop Shaw wide receiver Jacob Washington committed to Michigan shortly after his official visit for Victors Weekend.

Washington picked Michigan over fellow finalists Baylor, Georgia Tech and Missouri.

“The offense is definitely a powerhouse,” Washington said. “Everything the team does from the wide receivers to the running backs to the tight ends to the quarterbacks to the offensive line moves in one smooth wheel. It was great to see every aspect of practice (in the spring). It was super competitive. The energy surrounding practice was second to none. They practiced with a purpose. It was fun to watch.

“I can definitely see myself fitting into Michigan’s offense. They put up huge points every week. A lot of the routes and the concepts are downfield. I like to consider myself a deep threat that can take the top off a defense. I can see myself catching touchdowns week-by-week in The Big House.”

Michigan wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy, a Louisiana native, attended the same high school as Washington and was able to seal the deal.

“Every conversation I had with Coach Bellamy was a great one,” Washington said. “We attended the same high school and played under the same head coach. We already had that connection. Coach Bellamy is a phenomenal coach and person as well. I liked how he approached coaching. He was always involved with his players at practice (in the spring). He told me something that stuck with me. He said, ‘I coach them hard but love them harder.’ That stood out to me.”

Washington is a high school teammate of three-star Michigan running back commit Jasper Parker.

At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Washington is ranked as the No. 50 wide receiver and No. 329 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 9 overall recruit in the state of Louisiana this cycle.

Michigan now has nine commits in its 2025 recruiting class — Washington, Top 100 Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga defensive back Kainoa Winston, Top 100 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick defensive lineman Nate Marshall, On300 Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, four-star Palatine (Ill.) High EDGE Jaylen Williams, four-star Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach, four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, three-star New Orleans (La.) Archbishop Shaw running back Jasper Parker and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens.

The class entered the day ranked No. 15 nationally and No. 5 in the Big Ten, per the On3 Industry national team recruiting rankings. The Wolverines currently sit behind Ohio State, Oregon, USC and Penn State.
