Michigan lands commitment from top 2025 TE target Eli Owens
Michigan has scored a commitment from three-star 2025 Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens, who visited for The Game.
Owens picked Michigan over offers from Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Wisconsin and others.
“With the way I get used at my high school, it would be a seamless transition,” Owens said. “The coaches and all the guys in the room are outstanding. Anybody would be lucky to play for Michigan.”
Owens visited Michigan on numerous occasions over the last year. His two trips to Ann Arbor in November sealed the deal for the Wolverines.
Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome led the way in this recruitment and ultimately won Owens over.

“He’s such a personable guy,” Owens said. “Nothing is ever awkward with him. Conversations flow. It’s like you’re talking to your best friend. I like what he’s been able to get done with the tight ends at Michigan and how he’s bringing in the best in the country for the future of the room. I know the tight ends are going to get drafted. It’s amazing to see what he’s doing, and he’s just such a good person.”
Owens was also impressed with U-M’s tight end usage.
“I feel like the tight ends are the key focus point in Michigan’s offense,” Owens said. “Everything runs around them. The amount of tight ends that get used and how special they are in their own different ways makes the offense run. What I have been told is that I is that I am a mix between Colston (Loveland) and Max (Bredeson).”
At 6-foot-2, 230 pounds, Owens is ranked as the No. 23 tight end and No. 364 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking. He is also ranked as the No. 11 overall recruit in the state of Tennessee for next cycle.
