Michigan football has added another piece to its 2023 team, this one from the transfer portal. Nebraska freshman Ernest Hausmann played in every game and started 7 games this year as a true frosh and notched 54 tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery this season … and now he’s a Wolverine.

The Columbus, Neb. native entered the portal after the season. He was a two-way standout in high school.

From his bio:

“Hausmann joined the Huskers as one of the top defenders and overall players in the state of Nebraska. [He] was a two-way standout for Columbus High School.

“Hausmann helped the Discoverers to a state playoff appearance as a senior. An Omaha World-Herald first-team All-Nebraska selection, Hausmann made 80 tackles with eight tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and four pass breakups in his final season. Offensively, he caught 37 passes for 600 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing six times for 108 yards, including a 57-yard touchdown run.”

Hausmann was a consensus three-star prospect and the No. 5 player in Nebraska. He chose Nebraska over offers from Arizona State, Iowa, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State and Minnesota, among others.

Hausmann had some huge games down the stretch in his final four contests of the season. He entered the month with only 22 total tackles and nine solos through eight games, but he picked it up with 32 tackles, 27 solo tackles, two tackles-for-loss, a sack, and a fumble recovery in November.

Hausmann’s last three games were his best. He notched a pair of 10-tackle games, including one against Michigan, recorded his first career sack, and notched his first career fumble recovery. He finished sixth on the team in total tackles and fourth in solos.
