The Michigan Wolverines are in the process of transforming its roster under new head coach Dusty May and have made the cut for another prospect out of the transfer portal. According to On3’s Joe Tipton, Michigan is in the final eight schools for Penn transfer point guard Clark Slajchert.

Other schools in the mix are UCLA, Cal, Utah State, San Francisco, Stanford, Davidson, and USC.

The second-team All-Ivy selection averaged 18.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game this season while shooting 48.7% from the field and 42.2% from three (57-of-135). He has two seasons of eligibility remaining and is the No. 214 player available, per the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings.

Slajchert played in 27 of 30 games in 2022-23 and finished second in the team in scoring (13.6 ppg), second in steals (28) and fourth in assists (48). He played in 25 of 28 games in 2021-22, averaging 10.7 points per game.

Slajchert, a Los Angeles, California native, was an unranked recruit out of high school but was a team captain as a senior at Oak Park HS, scoring 2,833 points in his career and finishing second in Ventura County history and 17th-most in California history.

Michigan continues to cast a wide net in the portal with plenty of needs on the roster at multiple positions. May teams like to play small and shoot a lot of threes, so there is plenty of room for guards/wings in the building.

May said during his introductory press conference that they were going to search far and wide as Michigan rebuilds the roster.

“We’re going to cast a big net,” May said. “We’ll narrow it down, we’ll be very patient because we’re not going to take the wrong guys because we have several spots. We’re going to be very thorough but we need to understand that we need to be right, we need to do our research in advance and make sure we make very calculated decisions because there’s a lot of options, and they’re not all great options.”

Michigan currently has four scholarship players with eligibility remaining with Nimari Burnett and Jace Howard having fifth years available and Will Tschetter having two more years left.
