Michigan makes top five for Tulane transfer guard Kolby King
The Michigan Wolverines continue to work on ways to build out a roster for the 2024-25 season and have made the cut for one of their top transfer targets in Kolby King. The former Tulane guard released a list of his final five schools on Saturday night with the Wolverines squarely in the mix.
The four others are South Carolina, Dayton, Utah and Butler.
King played his freshman season at St. John’s in 2022-23 and sophomore year with Tulane in 2023-24. He has two years of eligibility remaining. This season, he started 23 of 31 games played with 10.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in both guard roles. He shot 56.1% from two-point range, 36.8% from three and 74.4% from the foul line.
According to On3’s Jamie Shaw in an April 12 update, King was still working on setting a visit to Michigan.
“Upwards of 20 schools reached out to King when he went into the portal,” Shaw wrote. “King has narrowed things down a bit and set his first two visits. The native of Pompano Beach, Florida will visit Butler this weekend and next weekend with Utah. King is also working on setting a visit date with Michigan. Continue to monitor these visits as he goes on them.”
Michigan head coach Dusty May had a firsthand look at King and his team in the American Athletic Conference that also featured Florida Atlantic. He scored 7 points in each of the two games that the Green Wave played against the Owls.

“We’re going to cast a big net, then we’ll narrow it down,” May said at his introductory press conference. “We’ll be very, very patient because we’re not going to take the wrong guys just because we have several spots. We’re going to be very thorough but understand that we need to be right we need to do our research in advance and make sure we make very calculated decisions, because there are a lot of options and they’re not all great options.”
