Michigan has moved up in the On3 transfer portal team rankings after recently adding three players.

The Wolverines jumped one spot from No. 10 to No. 9 and also have the third ranked class in the Big Ten conference. U-M currently sits behind Rutgers and Oregon.

Michigan’s first portal addition of the spring window came late last week when the Wolverines filled a big position of need and added Missouri punter Luke Bauer. He is set to replace last year’s starter, Tommy Doman, who transferred to Florida in the winter.

Bauer started 20 games over the last two seasons, punting 71 times for 2,969 yards for an average punt of 41.8 yards with 21 punts downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, including six touchbacks between 2023-24.

Michigan also bolstered its running back room by landing two transfers in UMass’ CJ Hester and Princeton’s John Volker.

A former three-star recruit, Hester rushed for more than 6,000 yards during his prep career and was a finalist for Ohio’s Mr. Football Award alongside current U-M running back Jordan Marshall.

Hester, who has two years of eligibility remaining, rushed for 529 yards and four touchdowns at UMass last season, averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Hester also caught 14 passes for 58 yards. His game high (74 yards) came against Georgia.

Volker was originally part of the 2021 recruiting class and was a three-star prospect out of Rumson (N.J.) Fair Haven. He was a two-time all-conference selection in football and led his track team to a New Jersey state title.

Volker, who was a team captain at Princeton, rushed for 1,175 yards and 17 touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry, over 30 games. He also logged 272 receiving yards and two more scores.

The 6-foot, 215-pounder had his most productive season last year, rushing for 514 yards and six touchdowns en route to earning Honorable Mention All-Ivy and Phil Steele Fourth-Team All-Ivy. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

Michigan has landed 17 players out of the transfer portal so far — Volker, Hester, Bauer, kicker Beckham Sunderland (Texas State), defensive back Caleb Anderson (Louisiana), wide receiver Anthony Simpson (UMass), long snapper Trent Middleton (UCLA), quarterback Mikey Keene (Fresno State), running back Justice Haynes (Alabama), linebacker Troy Bowles (Georgia), wide receiver Donaven McCulley (Indiana), offensive lineman Lawrence Hattar (Ferris State), offensive lineman Brady Norton (Cal Poly), cornerback Tevis Metcalf (Arkansas), safety TJ Metcalf (Arkansas), defensive lineman Tre Williams (Clemson) and defensive tackle Damon Payne Jr. (Alabama).
