WATCH: NFL Combine recap, Michigan hoops bottoms out, more
The Michigan Wolverines had 18 players at the 2024 NFL Combine with no shortage of standout performers, headlined by quarterback J.J. McCarthy, running back Blake Corum and cornerback Mike Sainristil.
TheWolverine.com’s Clayton Sayfie and Anthony Broome discussed the event and its standouts on Monday night, in addition to the state of a bottoming-out basketball program and questions from the fans.
“Blake Corum ended up running the 40-yard dash in 4.53, a good time for him,” Sayfie said. “He had slimmed down seven pounds from what he was listed at Michigan. Then he goes through the drills and he’s just moving at another speed than the rest of these running backs. The drill where they have the three bags set up where then at the last second the guys holding the bags kind of like tilt them one way and then you have to go to the open hole, he was reading that faster than anybody. I don’t think that surprises people who have watched him over the years, but I thought he did a really good job. He looks smooth catching the ball too, which is huge for him. He wants to show he can do more of that, he said. So I like what I saw from Blake Corum.
“Mike Sainristil, we were in Lucas Oil Stadium watching his drills and he was another guy. We had the stopwatch out. We had the binoculars going as well. We were also listening to the broadcast while we were going through it. Mike Sainristil, Quinion Mitchell, the Toledo corner, I thought in the same category, but the way they moved was just at a different level than most of the rest of the corners. Mike comes out of it and you see analysts talking about him as being the top nickel back in the draft.”
