Sherrone Moore updates Michigan's OC search timeline, transfer portal QB pursuit
Michigan Wolverines football is in the market for a new offensive coordinator, and head coach Sherrone Moore thinks the program might be rounding third base in finding its next play-caller.
Moore took to the podium on Tuesday night in Ann Arbor to preview the upcoming ReliaQuest Bowl against Alabama and revealed that a move could be coming within the next 24-48 hours.
“We’re pretty close,” Moore said on Wednesday evening. “Looking like the next day or so.”

The job has been open for a week and a lack of news has raised some eyebrows among the Michigan fanbase. But Moore has been working diligently to find not only the best playcaller, but the right fit for what he wants the program to be.
“You gotta have urgency in everything you do,” Moore said. “I always have that urgency all the time in whatever I’m doing. But we want to make sure we found the right fit, the right person not only scheme wise, football-wise, development-wise, like I talked about, but have to have to love for this place. When they walk into this building, you could feel the love that I have injected into that. I want that type of person to lead our offense and I think we’re in that place.”
The Michigan coordinator talks also play directly into its potential pursuit of a portal signal-caller to pair with Bryce Underwood. Moore doubled down on the idea that the Wolverines will add one in the next few weeks.
“There’s a lot of positions that we’re going to add in depth and add in spots to help fill,” Moore said.” The specifics of that, I guess you guys will have to see, but we’ll definitely look into a quarterback in the portal and we’ll go from there.

“[We want] experience, a guy that is going to be a great leader, a great teammate, obviously can play, and, uh, yeah, gotta be a great fit. That’s gotta be that one piece.”
Asked if potential options in the portal are asking who Michigan’s offensive coordinator might be, Moore said, “They are, but they trust me. So we’ll be in good shape.”
Moore said that his candidates all have playcalling experience, so that will be a major box checked for whomever lands the job this week.
“People didn’t believe that I could call plays,” Moore said. “Jesse [Minter] didn’t call plays. Look at Jesse now. So, I don’t think that’s necessarily the piece, but the the guys that I’ve been looking at have that experience.”
