Michigan offensive line wins the Joe Moore Award again
The Michigan offensive line was a huge part of U-M’s success this year, paving the way for an elite running game and providing great protection for quarterback J.J McCarthy. For the second straight year, the group was rewarded with the Joe Moore Award as the nation’s top offensive line.

The Wolverines captured it last year, too, and beat out Georgia — another playoff team and the other finalist for the honor — this season.
“To be considered a potential Joe Moore Award winner, an offense must be successful because of their O- line unit, not despite it, and that is unquestionably the case with the 2022 finalists,” Cubelic, chairman of the Joe Moore Award voting committee, said in a release. “Historically it’s taken five to six weeks for O-line units to hit their stride, but Georgia and Michigan separated themselves pretty early on with their teamwork, technique, and commitment to physicality.”
He reported that five votes separated the Wolverines and Bulldogs.
“With 131 units on our preseason ‘watch list’, one of the yearly challenges the committee faces is finding enough time to watch the amount of tape necessary to make informed evaluations,” Aaron Taylor, CBS college football analyst and founder of the Joe Moore Award, added (Taylor played guard at the University of Notre Dame for the award’s namesake, the legendary offensive line coach Joe Moore). “Thankfully, units like Michigan and Georgia make finding the time easier by being so rewarding to watch.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about a potential head to head JMA matchup in the playoffs, as both of this year’s finalists seem to be at their best when it’s needed most — at the end of ball games.”
Michigan will face TCU in one semifinal in the Fiesta Bowl, while Georgia will kickoff against Ohio State in the Peach Bowl later New Year’s Eve.
