Podcast: Evaluating Juwan Howard's future, U-M's QB situation, more
The Michigan Wolverines have had one of the worst seasons in recent program history with an 8-18 record and an uncertain future for head coach Juwan Howard, who has been unable to pull the team out of its hole this season.
TheWolverine.com’s Anthony Broome and Clayton Sayfie discussed his status on the show Monday night, citing that nothing is likely to change between now and the end of the regular season, barring something unforeseen.
“Chris Balas and I talked about Warde Manuel’s comments last week and I didn’t read much into those because what’s he supposed to say?,” Sayfie said. “He’s not going to say he’s going to fire him if they lose on Saturday. You’re not going to come out and say if they don’t win four or five of their next however many games, he’s gone or if they don’t win the Big Ten tournament. He’s always been in a guy who evaluates at the end of the season. I don’t think this is going to be any different.
“I know we’ve seen a couple of changes throughout the country, including with Michigan’s rival, Ohio State firing Chris Holtmann, then beating Purdue the other day. So maybe you could look at that and be like, ‘Maybe you can get that interim bump or whatever, but no, I don’t see anything happening before the end of the year.
“They still have five regular season games left. They’re going to play in the first set of games, likely as the 14 seed on Wednesday night in the Big Ten Tournament in Minneapolis. And obviously, that gives you an opportunity to at least do something.”
Other topics included Jack Tuttle’s return to the football program at quarterback, what it means for the depth chart and taking fan questions.
