“As far as the players, he said there’s a good vibe right now in the early going since they won the national championship to now,” Sayfie said. “He said ‘satisfied, but not satisfied. Yeah, we won a natty. That’s it. That’s not it. We want more.’ He said that’s not a pun, by the way, with his last name.

“It feels like a couple practices in — and Sherrone Moore is the only guy we’ve talked to — it seems like he’s pretty pleased with the guys that are stepping up. [Senior running back] Donovan Edwards, we’ve heard a couple times, is more of a leader. The Mason Grahams, the Will Johnsons. They’re still somewhat young — they’re still technically in their sophomore year of college, entering their junior year in the fall – but those leaders are starting to come into shape a little bit here as they start spring ball.”
“And for all the bluster and for how frenetic it was for a few weeks, where you’re not sure what the coaching staff would look like. And you’re not sure on keeping the roster together. You start hearing about guys like Donovan Edwards, Mason Graham and Will Johnson. Wink Martindale talking about Rod Moore last week — in terms of football smarts and IQ — talks about him as a guy that reminds him of Eric Weddle. All of the sudden, there is so much change, but you look up and a lot of spots on this roster, there’s a lot of familiarity and there is a lot of carryover, especially on the defensive side of the ball.
“Given how crazy the last couple months have been, in terms of the hoopla of winning it all and the changes to the staff and the operation … getting this team, which has the chance to be a very good or maybe even great football team — a lot has to happen, a lot has to come together — you like to hear that.”
