Wolverine TV podcast: Michigan football summer intel, final thoughts ahead of Caleb Houstan, Moussa Diabate decisions
TheWolverine.com‘s Clayton Sayfie, Chris Balas and Anthony Broome discuss the latest surrounding Michigan Wolverines football and basketball. We share our final thoughts ahead of NBA decisions from Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabate, discuss the football team and what we picked up at last Sunday’s mega camp in Chicago and more.
Balas attended the camp and raved about the camaraderie he saw between the 20-plus Michigan football players who were in attendance. They were teaching and coaching kids, interacting with the members of the community and their teammates and more.
“First of all, the engagement with the kids and how engaged they were about Michigan,” Balas said of what he most took away from the Michigan camp. “These were a bunch of Michigan fans there, and they were chanting, ‘It’s great to be a Michigan Wolverine,’ you saw them jumping up and down.
“[Junior wide receiver and return man] A.J. Henning is a born leader — I’m telling you. And he said he’s going to be a coach one day, and I think he could be a coach one day, the way he was interacting with those kids. But just down to earth guys.
“One of our colleagues told me once, the difference between Michigan and some of the other teams in the Big Ten that he covered, it was night and day. And it is what it is — you can call it the Michigan difference or whatever. These guys were hands on, first class.

Michigan prepared to offer No. 1 recruit $10.5M over 4 years
“I felt bad for [Michigan sophomore quarterback] J.J. McCarthy. That kid cannot move without being cornered by somebody. Of course, we were trying to corner him for an interview as well, but what we picked up there is that his arm is progressing, it’s getting better. As we reported, the initial X-Rays, they were considering surgery and it was headed that way before they got several other looks and the doctors that saw him in-person said, ‘Nope, you don’t have to do it. Do this.’ So here’s hoping, guys, that it’s the right thing, because they’re going to need both quarterbacks. Let’s be honest, guys get banged up.”
