Harbaugh heaped praise upon his Michigan players and assistant coaches during his press conference. He also was asked whether or not this is the best his program has been during his almost nine full seasons on the sidelines.

“There’s no doubt, these guys play for each other,” Harbaugh said, with the Michigan coach declining to compare this year to the past. “Somebody third year, fourth and fifth year players that are on the team, veteran team, and all the new player, one year players that have transferred in. They picked up on that vibe and they love it. So have our young players. They see it, and that’s the vibe I pick up. Guys are playing for each other. They prepare for each other. They fight for each other. They go out and win for each other. They work together, they win together, as [daughter] Katie Harbaugh came up with. Was looking at my quote board, she said, “work together, win together.” So that’s my new favorite quote on my quote board.”

Michigan junior running back Donovan Edwards got in the end zone for the first time this season, much to the delight of his coaches and teammates. Harbaugh made an analogy about an olive jar to describe Edwards struggling to get in the end zone but finally scoring a touchdown for Michigan.

When things are stuck, you haven’t gotten something in a while. Sometimes use that analogy with turnovers on defense. You’re close, but you just can’t’ seem to get it. The olive jar analogy is the olives are packed in so tight, they’ve got the big screw in top. It’s wide. You unscrew it and turn the olive jar over, nothing will come out because they’re packed in so tight. But if you can just get one to get shaked loose, then they just all start plopping out. That’s what I said to Don … hey … you’re in.”

Michigan is back on the road next week with a matchup against in-state foe Michigan State.
