Newsstand: Michigan RB undergoes career-ending knee surgery
Michigan football running back Isaiah Gash went from walk-on to scholarship success story, but it appears the Cinderella plot thread has come to a close. According to Gash on social media, he underwent a knee surgery that has ended his playing career.
Gash was entering his fourth season with the Michigan football program. The son of NFL assistant coach Sam Gash had played some unsung plays in his career in Ann Arbor, including a big fourth-down conversion in a close-call win against Illinois late last year.
“Isaiah Gash, I think you all know the story of his toughness, physical and mental as a boxer,” Harbaugh said after the win over Illinois,” head coach Jim Harbaugh said after the game.

Mizzou coach sounded off
“Dropped the ball and comes back on the fourth and four. And that’s a new play for us. We just put that in this week. That was a Blake play all the way. Blake got the most reps on it. Blake was the guy we wanted to run that play. I think Isaiah had one practice rep on that play. But talked about on the sideline. He said he got it, he would he be able to execute it. And he did a fantastic job doing it in the game. The most critical, critical moment, picking up that fourth down.
“So I’m really happy with Isaiah Gash. Cemented a big place in my heart.”

Michigan quote of the day
“The edge is still there. Michigan’s been the top dog in their mind for a long time. Have they played the underdog role? Sure. But Michigan, when they beat Ohio State in Columbus last year, I was on hand. I was right there there watching the celebration. They knew what people thought about them on the outside looking in, but that didn’t get anywhere near the Michigan locker room.”
