On300 Nappanee (Ind.) NorthWood cornerback Jo’Ziah Edmond has submitted his National Letter of Intent and is officially signed with Michigan after announcing a flip commitment in August.

Edmond Recruitment

Edmond was verbally committed to Purdue in the summer but made two visits to Michigan during that period, including in late July for the annual BBQ at The Big House. He announced the flip to the Wolverines the day after the barbecue ended.

Co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Steve Clinkscale led the way in bringing Edmond to the class.

“What really stood out to me about Michigan is that they care,” Edmond told The Wolverine. “The coaches care about the team and the players. Going in knowing that I have coaches by my side to help me get through everything that I deal with (is great).”

Edmond chose Michigan over notable offers from Baylor, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Iowa State and others.

“Michigan has a great program,” NorthWood head coach Nate Andrews told The Wolverine. “It’s a great school, number one. Anyone who has the opportunity to compete at that level and to get an education at that level is pretty lucky. I hope that (Edmond) doesn’t take that for granted as he keeps chasing.”

The Indiana Football Coaches Association named Edmond to the Top 50 All-State team among all junior and senior in-state football players. He helped lead NorthWood to the IHSAA Class 4A Finals on November 25, finishing the season with 64 total tackles, 5 interceptions and 1 forced fumble. Offensively, he received 26 carries for 204 yards and 4 touchdowns, along with 65 catches for 505 yards and 7 touchdowns.

He’s set to enroll early.

At 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, Edmond is listed as the No. 235 overall prospect and No. 23 cornerback in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 6 player in Indiana.

Scouting Report

“Jo’Ziah has a ton of versatility and is a really good football player. Makes a bunch of plays in a bunch of different facets. He plays offense and defense. He has cover instincts and we project him at corner. He has a lot of ball skills and toughness at corner. I would expect him to be a physical presence on the outside who can overpower wide receivers. He’s a guy who has a well-rounded skillset and I think given his background, those ball skills will translate well to defense.” – On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power
