On Friday, Michigan landed a commitment from four-star Birmingham (Mich.) Groves offensive lineman Avery Gach.

The second in-stater in the 2025 recruiting class to be pledged to the Wolverines, Gach made his decision public less than two weeks following his third return to Ann Arbor this spring for the program’s intrasquad scrimmage on April 20.

Gach is the fifth commit this cycle for head coach Sherrone Moore.

“All the visits there are consistent,” Gach told The Wolverine. “They’re all consistent in terms of the attention to detail on me, the presentations that they give me, making me feel like I’m at home and a priority. It’s big. I really like it.”

Gach chose the reigning national champions over notable offers from Michigan State, where he’s a legacy, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, USC, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Auburn, Florida State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Miami, and others.

Entering the late spring at 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, Gach is listed as the No. 249 overall prospect and No. 19 interior offensive lineman in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 2 recruit in Michigan.

“(Michigan makes) Avery feel (like a priority) when he’s there,” father Dave Gach told The Wolverine. “Coach Moore is a teacher. Avery really did enjoy those two days of working on the field with him and seeing first-hand how he coaches.”

Gach’s visits to Ann Arbor have reached the double-digit mark dating back 18 months, when he first appeared at The Big House for the Penn State game two seasons ago. That’s when Moore offered Gach, who’s also developed a close relationship with newly promoted offensive line coach Grant Newsome.

“(Newsome) makes his points clear, so there’s no excuses on messing up in terms of direction,” Gach said. “He speaks clear and loud. He’s not confused when he talks. He knows what he wants.

“(Moore) knows what he wants at practice and gets the most out of his players. All the players respect him in that he leads the team out there.”

Gach joins Top 100 Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick EDGE Nate Marshall On300 Ft. Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot quarterback Carter Smith, four-star Howell (Mich.) High defensive lineman Bobby Kanka, and three-star Alcoa (Tenn.) High tight end Eli Owens

The Wolverines are currently ranked in the Top 15 on the 2025 On3 Industry National Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 4 overall in the Big Ten Conference behind Ohio State, USC, and Oregon.
