Three-star Avon (Ohio) High offensive lineman Luke Hamilton signed with Michigan on National Signing Day.

The Wolverine’s Zach Libby caught up with Hamilton to discuss why he remained solid with the Wolverines throughout the process and more. Watch the exclusive interview above.

Hamilton Recruitment

Hamilton made three unofficial visits to Michigan, including a game day trip at The Big House in 2022, before heading to Columbus last season for The Game as a prospective Ohio State recruit. He ultimately announced a commitment to the Wolverines less than 24 hours after the road win.

He chose U-M over notable offers from Penn State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Kentucky, Tennessee, Cincinnati, Nebraska, Minnesota, Pitt, Louisville, Iowa State, Maryland, Duke and others.

“When that clock ran out and I saw that score, I was super hyped, especially from watching how the offensive line played,” Hamilton told The Wolverine. “I was ecstatic. Coach Moore was hyped when I asked if I could call him. He said, ‘Of course. I’m not leaving until you do.’ Once I told him, he told me how happy he was to build this for the long run.”

Michigan offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore, as well as area recruiter Steve Clinkscale, developed bonds with Hamilton while he was uncommitted. Hamilton became the first 2024 prospect from Ohio to side with U-M.

“I think Luke is going to fit in really well at Michigan,” father Steve Hamilton told The Wolverine. “What helped him as soon as he committed was he went right into recruiting mode and got to know all the recruits. So when the commits come in, they feel like they already know Luke. Even the older players have seemed to welcome him and are willing to take him under his wing. He’s a kid who’s willing to work hard on his craft. He’s currently training with a former NFL player, who was a Super Bowl champion and national champion. Luke loves to work and wants to be the best. He’s also going to continue to strive for that.”

He’s set to enroll in June.

At 6-foot-4.5, 290 pounds, Hamilton is listed as the No. 441 overall prospect and No. 36 interior offensive lineman in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 15 player in Ohio.

Scouting Report

“Physical run blocker, for sure. I think he probably projects as an interior type. He’s at his best when (pushing defenders) forward as a road grader. A guy who looks to mash defensive linemen in the run game.” – On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power
