This summer for Michigan has seen the rise of a new NIL collective – M Power. It’s designed to help football players find avenues to gain exposure and profit from their individual brands, become more impactful community leaders, and build personal and business connections.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh, linebackers coach Chris Partridge, athletic director Warde Manuel and director of player personnel Chris Bryant spearhead the movement towards getting in line with the rest of college football. Adapting to be influential figures in the evolving world of NIL has been the message to donor meetings in Chicago, Washington D.C., Ann Arbor and other cities.

A more substantial presence in NIL correlates with recruiting success. That also leads to consistency with winning because of the amount of blue-chip athletes that enroll annually. In the 2024 recruiting class, Michigan is No. 5 overall in the On3 Industry National Team Recruiting Rankings with 15 four-star commits.

It’s the second-highest ranking for a Big Ten Conference program behind only Ohio State. Meanwhile, the Wolverines have the 13th highest average On3 NIL Valuation across all college football at $69K.

Alabama ($168K), Ohio State ($146K), Georgia ($116K,) Florida ($112K) and Clemson ($98K) round out the Top 5 in the country. Each team has at least two five-star 2024 verbal commitments. In the Top 15, seven clubs reside in the SEC. Next year, the number will rise to eight once Texas leaves the Big 12. In the Big Ten, Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State are the lone representatives.

The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.

The algorithm that collects data off an athlete’s brand and roster value comprises of three primary factors – performance, influence and exposure. How a recruit does on the field, their presence on social media (Twitter, Instagram and TikTok), as well as where the recruit attends high school and college greatly affects the predicted market available for the player.

11 of U-M’s 2024 pledges have an On3 NIL Valuation higher than $69K. They are among the 12 top-ranked commits this cycle for the Wolverines, including three listed in the Top 100 in the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. That includes Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day quarterback Jadyn Davis.

Davis, who’s coming off his Elite 11 finalist performance in Los Angeles, California, last month, is nearing $400K in projected annual value. When looking at the top NIL rankings in the 2024 class, Davis is No. 8 overall and No. 6 specifically among all quarterbacks. His social media game is solid, with 34,000 followers on Instagram, 14,200 followers on Twitter and 3,200 followers on TikTok.

Cincinnati (Ohio) Archbishop Moeller running back Jordan Marshall has an On3 NIL Valuation of $138K with a combined 8,000 followers on Instagram and Twitter. At 5-foot-10.5, 190 pounds, Marshall is the No. 2 overall prospect in the state of Ohio and No. 2 running back nationally. Rochester (Mich.) Adams tight end Brady Prieskorn, the No. 1 ranked in-stater, has an On3 NIL Valuation of $120K with a combined 4,300 followers on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter.
