Signee Spotlight: Four-star Michigan TE Hogan Hansen on signing, enrolling early, more
Four-star Bellevue (Wash.) High tight end Hogan Hansen has submitted his National Letter of Intent and is officially signed with Michigan after being verbally committed for over a year.
The Wolverine’s Zach Libby caught up with Hansen to discuss his decision, why he stayed solid with the Wolverines throughout the process and more. Watch the exclusive interview above.
Hansen Recruitment
Hansen committed to Michigan in December after visiting Ann Arbor for the late July BBQ at The Big House and for the Penn State game last season.
He chose the Wolverines over notable offers from Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Miami, Auburn, Oregon State, Colorado, Florida, Penn State, Michigan State, Arkansas, Tennessee and others.
“I think (December) was the right time to commit because I’ve had a gut feeling about Michigan for a long time,” Hansen told The Wolverine. “I’ve been pretty set on them for the last four or five months. With my focus being on Michigan, it was hard giving other schools and coaches my energy. I just feel great about my commitment. I love the coaching staff and it’s just a great place.”
Michigan tight ends coach Grant Newsome, who’s constructed a strong recruiting presence in the Pacific Northwest, kept in close contact with Hansen and his family, as the senior was a top priority on the tight end board this cycle.
“You’re talking about a young man who put the team on his shoulders and back,” Bellevue educator and recruiting coordinator Lorenzo McKinney told The Wolverine. “Never batted an eye about possibly decommitting or having certain questions about it. That commit group chat is as strong as ever. The world is understanding and realizing, ‘Oh, Michigan is the place to be.’ (Hansen) has been doing a great job of controlling what he can control. One of our best leaders ever and what he can do to be a Michigan Man and kick the s*** out of Ohio State these next four years.”
Hansen led Bellevue to a Washington 3A Playoff Championship on December 1 after winning 11 consecutive games. He finished with 11 catches for 224 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also had 8 carries for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. Defensively, he racked up 44 total tackles, 11 for a loss, 6 sacks, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries.

Hansen was also named the 3A KingCo Conference Defensive Player of the Year.
Hansen has an On3 NIL Valuation of $68K with 3.5K followers on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
He’s set to enroll early.
At 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, Hansen is listed as the No. 256 overall prospect and No. 16 tight end in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 5 player in Washington.
Scouting Report
“He played in a run heavy offense. It’s like a veer offense, so he’s comfortable as a blocker and putting his hand in the dirt. But he has the athleticism to be used in a traditional tight end role. He fits the way Michigan uses the tight ends, so he’s not a guy who’ll have that big of an adjustment in terms of Michigan’s pro-style scheme. Pretty well-rounded. Has experience receiving and blocking, so he comes with versatility.” – On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power
