Michigan signee Tarris Reed Jr video breakdown
Michigan was able to sign Hunter Dickinson out of the 2020 class. The big man quickly became one of the top post players in the Big Ten, and in the country. In an unstable transfer portal and NBA Draft environment, Hunter decided to return to Michigan for his Junior year. In order for Michigan to feel good about their post play depth, they needed to go get some size. Michigan and Juwan Howard keyed in on 6’10” 240 pound recruit, Tarris Reed Jr. Reed was seen as an Ohio State favorite, and at one point, on the verge of committing to the Buckeyes. One visit to Ann Arbor changed everything, and Tarris fell in love with Michigan.
When I first saw Tarris Reed Jr, he was ranked in the 100-150 range nationally. He was skilled, but he had not yet grown into his body. As the years went by, his confidence grew, he was more comfortable with his size, and he matured as a player. Reed’s game really took off in his junior year, and then used that momentum at Link Prep during his senior season. While at Link, Reed was able to impress scouts and bump his ranking into a Top 40 prospect nationally. Synergy Sports was able to chart 19 of his games, here is what we found.
Michigan Concepts at Link Prep Analytics
Overall Offensive Efficiency: Reed was very efficient during his senior season, scoring 1.113 points per possession (PPP) which ranked in the 90th percentile amongst nationally recognized high school programs.
Transition Offensive Efficiency: Tarris was one of the top players nationally in getting out and scoring in transition. He was able to get steals and deflections, then get early post touches for dunks and layups. Tarris was also able to read the defense and hit 3pt jump shots from the top of the key. He graded in the 100th percentile nationally, scoring 1.865 PPP.
