Michigan signees Tarris Reed and Jett Howard will both likely have at least some role as freshmen for U-M next year. The two had great senior seasons, and they’re making the most of their last prep action in all-star events.

Howard scored 13 points and dished four assists in Team Air’s 118-109 win over Team Flight at the Jordan Brand Classic in Chicago several days ago. He went 6-for-10 from the floor, 1-for-3 from three-point range, though he was one of two players on the team to finish with a negative plus/minus (minus-five).

Howard, Michigan coach Juwan Howard’s son, also dominated in the practices at times.

Reed went 4-for-9 from the floor for the losers, notching eight points and a game-high 11 points for the losers. The Michigan signee went plus-four and also added two steals and an assist.

He’s been a standout at practices for the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic and “continues to produce,” per On3.com’s Jamie Shaw. He’ll be expected to do the same at Michigan.

Tarris Reed has been a top-100 type prospect for a while. However, his ranking jumped significantly when he reshaped his body at Branson (MO) Link Prep this season,” Shaw reported. “Reed is a strong, sturdily built post player. He is a tough area rebounder, sets excellent screens, and has soft, passer-friendly hands. Reed can pick and pop out to three, and he can create from the high post. The question with him, long term, will be where does he defend.

“However, that will not be a question at Michigan. Reed’s skill-set should cause problems almost immediately in Ann Arbor. There is no doubt about his talent transitioning into the Big 10, but his continued production is opening eyes to what he could be in the NBA.”

Both players will arrive at Michigan next month.
